Southgate Arbor Day 2024

Hosted by Southgate City Council member Aileen Okura, this years Southgate Tree City USA Awards Ceremony honors awards for a poster contest for students from St. Therese School and Southgate Public School; Tree City USA and Growth Awards 2023; a special tribute in memory to the families of Jean Melville and Joan Muench; and a special presentation from Kentucky Division of Forestry member Marion Atkinson.

What does it take to become a Tree City USA member you may ask? Cities must have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and an annual Arbor Day proclamation and observance. Southgate has been celebrating 19 years as a Tree City USA member.
