Government Meetings In The COVID Era

Highland Heights City Council Meeting 8-2-22

The Start of COVID-19

COVID-19 brought about a lot of change to the way we do even the most basic things in our day to day lives. One big change it brought to Campbell Media was the way we conducted government meetings in Campbell County. Once lockdown took affect, we began conducting meetings completely virtual using Zoom, allowing all council members to remotely connect safely from their own homes. We hosted test meetings with all participating cities to make sure we had every council member trained and knowledgeable on how to navigate their way through this new software and new protocols for meetings done online. The meetings were then broadcasted both to our cable channels and to each corresponding cities Facebook page. Cities allowed public questions submitted in Email before the meeting and allowed comments and questions on Facebook in real time, with council members reading comments during the meeting.

Hybrid Meetings

As the pandemic started to allow more social interacting, meetings began to be conducted in hybrid modes, where some council members met in person, and others still met remotely via Zoom. We helped make this happen by streaming our production camera equipment into the actual Zoom meeting itself, and projecting the chat onto a projector screen in the room, and running audio through the speakers; allowing the members to see and communicate with each other in real time, no matter where they were.

The Future of Meetings

This hybrid method has continued to be a benefit for the cities for moments where meeting in person becomes difficult or risky for some members. And because of the pandemic, we are now capable of continuing to broadcast meetings live for those cities wanting to do so. We’ve even improved upon the many destinations where you can watch the live meetings. In addition to watching on cable TV and Facebook, we also offer viewers to be able to watch live on our website through any web browser, or on their OTT boxes (such as Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire). Click here to read more about how to watch from those services. We’re proud to be able to offer these services to help your cities continue to get their work done, and for viewers to watch, in this COVID-19 era.
